Hello guys,
As you may know, I received for Christmas as a gift from my girlfriend the Nintendo 2DS I was looking for since months.
I couldn’t be happier when I saw the yellow box and when I had the possibility to play New Super Mario Bros. 2, even though it was easier that what I thought.
For this reason I was looking for a good Mario game, harder than that one, but at the same time not so mind-blowing: a good compromise between difficulty and longevity, between the first Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3. For this reason I started to check online if I could find something for me but at first I didn’t think about the Nintendo eShop I had on 2DS.
So yesterday night I turned my interntet connection on and in the N store and for the small sum of 4,99€ I found exactly what I was looking for.
Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels is the first official sequel of Super Mario Bros. and came out in 1986. The story is more or less this: Super Mario Bros., released in 1985, was an astonishing success for Nintendo and a lot of enthusiast players started to demand a new adventure. Shigeru Miyamoto was busy to develop The Legend of Zelda but the requests from the fans were so pressing he decided to set aside for a while his Zelda project and quickly created a new Mario game. Graphics, sound and gameplay were 99% the same of the predecessor, but this title was harder than the first. No wonder oon the box of the game was written “For Super Players”.
The world was discovering Nintendo Masterpiece in those years (it came out in 1985 in North America – ending the famous video game crash – and in 1987 in Europe) so the japanese firm thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to export this product overseas, since the european and american players were just discovering the NES. For this reason The Lost Levels was a game published only in Japan.
But now this forgotten gem is available even for the virtual console so I started to play it as I were in 80s: no saves allowed. And this could be a problem since the game is not so easy…
Let’s see how it will be!
Girlfriends buy you sweet gifts? I now regret being single.

How are you liking the game? It’s probably so challenging!

I love it! Yes there are some stages that are veeeeery challenging. I though this could be the game I could use to inaugurate my twitch account. But first I have to check how it works…

I have a lot of nostalgia for the Super Mario All-Stars of The Lost Levels. It’s wonderfully brutal. I already loved Mario before, but it was this game that pushed me to the limit. I still consider it the most difficult Mario game, and that’s certainly praise!

Yes, even for me it’s the hardest. Maybe is also for the difficulti to use the 2DS controls while I was accustomed to the NES controller, but it’s really tought. Do you have a version of The Lost Levels or you play it via emulator?

I have a Virtual Console version on Wii, but I primarily played the SNES one.

Unfortunately I don’t have a SNES. But when I will find the perfect deal I will buy it immediately! Here it’s possible to find one at 50€-60€ if it’s a lucky day…

I have the Mario All Stars (SNES) version, and I am too scared to play it. I know I am going to suck at it!

I think almost everybody suck at it. At least for the first 50 times…it’s still impossible for me to finish the first world…

I watched a speed run of all worlds, no warps. Some of the levels are INSANE

Yes I watched them too. I think I will never beat it…

I’m going to go back to NSMB one day! Especially since now 2 is out. I’m such a slacker.

If you had some trouble with NSMB I suggest NSMB2. It’s a bit easier. You can cut your teeth on this and then go back to NSMB…

That sounds like a great idea! *adds*

Ooh, this game is definitely hard! Very fun but I can’t seem to get very far in it…

Me too. It’s impossible to advance level. Plus I’m a bit awkward with 2DS controller. I use to have NES controller in my hands when I play Mario…

True, I’ve never played it on the 2DS so I can imagine it would be awkward to play on it! I’ve only played it on the SNES because it was part of Super Mario All-Stars!
