Who knows if the creators of The O.C. were greedy Dreamweb players, since the name of the protagonist is Ryan and he looks like Jimmy Cooper. Aside from this useless introduction, we can say that Dreamweb is one of the least cited graphic adventures among those of the 90s, a decade dominated by LucasArts and Sierra, maybe also because it’s a point and click very atypical, with a top down view that got not so good reviews (it actually got very bad ones, at least among the most importants). Dreamweb’s world is that of a straightforward cyberpunk adventure very similar of that of dozens of movies and games and Dreamweb itself is the name of a sort of neural web that connects everty human being and that would start a war if it ever fall in the wrong hands (those of the seven evils) after which the humanity would be doomed. With a persistent atmosphere swinging from the dreamlike nightmare and the killing spree (we actually don’t know if it’s justified by a real danger), our Ryan will face puzzles, often very similar to each others, and will be also involved in crude situations and (even) sex (but the pixels are too few to understand something). It’s always the same old story: is Dreamweb good because it was one of the few games I had or it’s just crap? And the answer is always the same: who knows. I personally liked it, I loved the pixellated graphics and the cyberpunk atmosphere (something that always fascinated me in the sci-fi genre). It deserves to be reassessed? Surely yes, but it won’t surely meet everybody’s taste.
Chissà se i creatori di The O.C. erano avidi giocatori di Dreamweb, dal momento che il protagonista si chiama Ryan e assomiglia a Jimmy Cooper. Fatta questa inutile introduzione possiamo dire che Dreamweb è una delle avventure punta e clicca che più di rado vengono citate tra quelle degli anni 90, dominate da LucasArts e Sierra, forse anche per il fatto che è un punta e clicca atipico, con visuale dall’alto e che non ebbe ottime recensioni, anzi furono tutte (almeno le più blasonate) molto basse. Il mondo di Dreamweb è quello cyberpunk già visto in tanti giochi e film e proprio Dreamweb è una sorta di rete neurale che lega tutti gli abitanti della terra e che se finisse in cattive mani (quelle di sette individui malvagi) scatenerebbero un’inevitabile guerra dalla quale l’umanità non si riprenderebbe. Sospesi perennemente tra il delirio onirico e la follia omicida (non sappiamo se giustificata o meno da una reale situazione di pericolo) il nostro Ryan affronterà enigmi, c’è da dirlo, spesso fatti con lo stampino e non lesinerà momenti crudi di uccisioni e (addirittura) sesso (ma i pixel sono pochi per capirci qualcosa). Siamo sempre alla stessa domanda: è un gioco bello perchè è uno dei pochi che avevo oppure è solo una ciofeca? E la risposta è sempre la stessa: chi lo sa. A me personalmente è piaciuto, ho amato la grafica pixellosa e l’atmosfera utopica, una cosa che mi ha sempre attirato nella fantascienza. Merita di essere recuperato? Di sicuro si, ma non sarà sicuramente per tutti i palati.

Yeah, this one was really underrated by honoured reviewers and experts after its release. Certainly, it was a game for more mature players, and I don’t just mean the pixelated violence and one even more pixelated sex scene. God, I wish I had the time and know-how to recreate it as a Hotline Miami mod.
