Heimdall is one of those games that never got a huge success and neither is one that redefined a genre; on the other hand it has been defined as an RPG tailored for the ones who’s never played an RPG. As you can easily imagine what really got me about this game are the so-90s cartoonish graphics, the echoes of nordic mythology and the isometric view (the same thing that captured me in Cadaver, a game I often relate to Heimdall) and giving the fact that I totally suck in RPGs, with Heimdall I’ve found a game that pushes harder on the action/adventure genre than on the RPG aspect. We’re in the shoes of the protagonist Heimdall, sent by the Gods to retrieve Odin’s sword, Freyr’s spare and Thor’s hammer stolen by Loki, and we’ll traverse the realms of Utgard, Midgard and Asgard hoping to become a God ourselves in exchange of the aid provided. It’s a frequently overlooked game but it’s pretty interesting and I strongly suggest it to non-hardcore RPG gamers but adventure lovers.

Heimdall è uno di quei giochi che non hanno mai avuto grande successo e neanche uno di quelli che ha ridefinito un genere, anzi, è stato definito un RPG fatto apposta per chi non ha mai affrontato un RPG. Come potrete ben immaginare ciò che mi ha colpito del gioco è la grafica molto anni 90 da cartone animato, echi della mitologia nordica e la visuale isometrica (la stessa cosa che mi colpì in Cadaver, un gioco che spesso associo a Heimdall) e dato che sono una schiappa negli RPG ho trovato pane per i miei denti in questo gioco che punta spesso più sulla fare action/adventure. Nei panni del protagonista Heimdall, inviato dagli dei per recuperare la spada di Odino, la lancia di Freyr e il martello di Thor rubati da Loki, attraverseremo i reami di Utgard, Midgard e Asgard, nella speranza di diventare noi stessi una divinità in cambio dell’aiuto fornito. E’ un gioco spesso dimenticato ma davvero interessante e lo consiglio caldamente agli amanti delle avventure che non siano giocatori RPG hardcore.
