[Game of The Week] Week #19 – Legend of Kage

Hi folks!

Here we are again with another entry, the ninteenth, of the [Game of the Week] column and this time the game featured is Legend of Kage for ZX Spectrum!

Developer: Taito

Publisher: Imagine Software

Platforms: Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MSX, NES, Sharp X1, ZX Spectrum (pictured)

Genre: Action, Platformer

Release Date: 1986

This underpowered version of Legend of Kage is surely not comparable with the other ones released on platforms with more HP, like C64 and NES. However, probably for the fact that the ZX Spectrum has always had and will always have a super soft spot in my heart (and therefore my opinion is very biased) I kinda liked this speccy outing of the famous action platformer. All of the weak points of the system immediately become loved quirks (of course only for the Speccy fans) like the abundance of color clash; the game however has a bad ranking on worldofspectrum.org with a mere 5.56. The platform genre is the one that suits better the Spectrum hardware (or better the one that has less problems) and Legend of Kage is at least acceptable, even though it almost have no sound whatsoever except some effects when the ninja throws its shuriken.
