In 2019 A.D the fact that superheroes earn hundreds of millions of dollars with movies and merchandise, mainly thanks to Marvel is something that we tale for granted. But there was a time when superheroes were still something niche and video games based on them were not so uncommon as well as their success weren’t. If Marvel movies had gotten 9 figures income in the 90s probably this game would have been a smash hit. However, even if it came out somehow ahead of time, even though, again, superheroes have always been an attractive on kids, Spider-Man & X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge is a pretty decent game. It has some flaws, of course: first of all it has been made by LJN and that usually means “poor quality movies adaptations” and then the controls are somethign awful. However back in the day we care less about perfect controls, perfect graphics and perfect plot (at least in some games) and that’s the reason why this game is still enjoyable after almost 27 years, especially if played on the real console.
