The greatest thing of the month is, of course, the PS4 Pro I’ve received for Valentine’s Day 😀 It fits perfectly in the empty space I still have under the TV so now the gaming shelf is complete. There’s a mess of cabled there behind, but at least if you look it from the front everything seems in order. Even because my two pigs are guarding everything 🙂
Along with it I’ve received Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Wolf games all have a special place in my heart because I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D back in the 90s on my dramatically underpowered PC. A few days later I’ve also downloaded Slap and Beans, a game I’ll be most likely writing a review about, but this time in italian, since it’s based on the popular movies of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill – popular in italy, of course.
Unfortunately aside from the PS4, it has been a rather poor month. Lack of offers both for games and consoles and the few games I’ve bought are games that I wanted, of course, but not games I wad dying for: I just stumbled in some good offers. On the other hand I’ve played a lot and completed a lot of games (for my standards) so I’m happy anyway with that.
I’ve finally got at least one of the two Taito Legends games for the PS2, the first one which came together with God of War. This is not a game I’m completely familiar with but it was a bundle offer and I’ve heard so many good things about it so I’m sure one day I’ll have some fun with it. Rez has been another pleasant surprise because I’ve found it on CeX in my town priced 5€ when I usually see it online at prices – at least – four times greater. It’s a rather strange game and I think it has been made by someone high on acids 🙂 but I love weird things so I’m really happy I have found it. Always for 5€ I’ve found Sega Classics Collection, another anthology I’m glad to add to the ones I already have.
As you’ve read in the last [RetroPicks] post I’ve also secured a copy of the shmup Deathsmiles for Xbox360 I was looking for for a decent price since a couple of months so when I saw it at just 8€ I couldn’t say no. Always for the 360 I’ve bought for just 4€ Dead Island Riptide (that now sits right next to the original Dead island) and Condemned 2, because horror games alre always welcome in my house 🙂
This week marks also my first entrance in the world of downloadable PC games. Since I’m an old fart, the first game I’ve downloaded was Cuphead in 2018 even because I’m too fond of physical copy of the games. Cuphead is not available if not as a digital copy so I was forced to download it, but this time I’ve bought a game that is also available on disc. Of course I’ve heart a lot about Steam and sites like this where you can purchase your games but I’ve always passed on them because I don’t fell I own a game until I don’t have it in my hands. However when I’ve heard that Epic Games was selling Axiom Verge for free for two weeks I really couldn’t pass again. Axiom Verge is a games that’s on my wishlist since it came out so getting it completely for free has been a major reason to “buy” it. Moreover Epic Games from February 21st has put on sale for free Thimbleweed Park, another game I was desperate to have so I’ve “bought” even that one.
Unfortunately my old humble laptop cannot support these games but since I’m planning to buy a new one soon in the meantime I’ve secured both of the games.
Other digital games I’ve bought, only because they don’t exist as a physical copy, are VVVVVV, Tetris 99 and The Way Remastered for the Switch. The fun fact is thatI’ve paid in total 5,98€, since VVVVVV was at 4,99€ and The Way was (shamelessly) at 0,99€. I still have to try Tetris 99 because I don’t have an online account but you know how much I loved The Way (you can read my review here); also I’m compulsively playing VVVVVV for its easy mechanics and addictive gameplay.
Of course even this month there’s a new addition to the Resident Evil collection: this time is the forgettable Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City for PS3 that will be a good companion to the same game I already own for Xbox 360.
