[Happy Birthday!] Ninja Gaiden

Hello old games lovers,

Great celebrations today, since it’s the 30th anniversary of one of the defining  games in videogames hisory, Ninja Gaiden a.k.a. Shadow Warriors, a perfect blend of action, platforming and scrolling beat ’em up, released today December 9th in 1988, in an era when the ninjas were on fashion.

Sega has always had the predominance in the “ninja” craze and even in the early 90s they released a lot of  Ninja games: just to give some examples we can cite Shinobi released in 1987 in the arcades, ported on the home consoles and “father” of a series on games and Shadow Dancer in 1989.

Nintendo’s answer was the loved Ninja Gaiden (the first chapter or a NES trilogy), developed by the loyal company Tecmo which graced the home console with one of the best games of its genre, hard as nails but super entertaining. Despite this great features it’s a shame that neither Ninja Gaiden nor its sequels are listed in the top-75 best selling NES games that includes all of the games that sold more than a million copies. Ironically was another “ninja” game to obtain this recognition, when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went to sell 4 million copies (11th place overall in the NES library).

So, Hail to Ninja Gaiden, a game that, despite is one of the titles in the NES Mini (so with the possibility to save a state), I’m still unable to beat, because of that fucking Jacquio…
