Here we are again with the usual monthly column about my shopping during the month of July. As you know in the last weeks I had to skow down both the number of posts and the frequency of my purchases, but still I had the possibility to close some good deals, especially for the Xbox 360.
I’ve been lucky to find an italian seller who listed an Xbox 360 Elite with one controller and all the cables still under the warranty released by Gamestop. The interesting thing about this pick is that I already have an Xbox Elite but I’ve bought it spare with no cables nor controller so it was still untested. Now I’m happy to confirm that it workd and, as the seller told me when I bought it in a city market, it’s an hacked one, loaded with tons of games.
Disclaimer: We hate piracy and I always buy original games, but I can’t do anything if they sell me a console full of games (some of which I’ve purchased even original)
Along with the Xbox 360 came 4 games: one for the original Xbox, Genma Onimusha that I still have to try and three for the 360, among which Star Ocean is still factory sealed…and I don’t wat to open it! 🙂 The price for the lot was just 40€ shipping included so I couldn’t turn it down. I’ve found the oter 360 games here and there in the markets and at the local GameStop and I relaly look forward to try Silent Hill in HD! 🙂
Among the NES games there are some that I was trying to get since months. Of course I’m not talking about The Blass Bass, but, for example, Double Dragon: now I have all the original NES trilogy that stands on the shelf between Dick Tracy and Dragon’s Lair.
P.S. There’s still a lot of work to do but I’ve at least finished to move all of my games and consoles in my living room. In the picture below you see the temporary disposition: all of the consoles near the TV, all hooked up (there’s a nightmare of cables down there) and ready to play (sometimes in the past I simply refused to play with a console just because I had to hook everything up…and it was quite complicated in the place where they were before…). Then, on the right, all of the games in a poorly organized disposition: NES on top, SMS on the right, Xbox, Wii, PS1 and PS2 in the second line, MD, Intellivision, Atari and PC in third line and undescribable mess in the remaining cubes. I’ll keep you posted about this new place for all of my stuff.
Back to the NES games. Along with Double Dragon came two games I love, Joust and Paperboy: the former because I’ve played the ariginal Atari 2600 version and I wanted to try also the NES one (but I think I have to clean it carefully because it looks like it doesn’t work properly), the latter because I’ve spent endless days playing it with my roomate while I was in Genova for the first year of the University.
I’ve finally put my hands also on The Legend of (not Zelda) Kage that has one of the labels I love the most in the entire NES library of games and on Defender of the Crown that was one of the first auctions I’ve lost when I started collecting NES games. The Three Stooges has been a lucky pick; I remember watching an AVGN episode about this game and, even if in Italy the Three Stooges are almost unknown I want to check if this games is really that bad. Maybe is not! To complete the NES purchases of the month I had To The Eart and Trojan: thanks to the first now I have another game to play with my Zapper and thanks to the second I have another hack ‘n slash a la Ghosts and Goblins…but less famous and (I hope) less difficult.
I’ve paid quite a lot for the shipping unfortunately but the 9 games came for less than 30€ so I think it was worth paying a bit more for the delivery.
Since I forgot to show you all of the Retro Gamer mags I’ve received in the last months, now you’ll get three of them: the one with the Chaos Engine on the cover is the one I’m reading right now, while the other two will be the next in my list. The one with the Mega Drive on the cover is simply amazing…
I’ve already eyed up some games I will buy (hopefully) in the next weeks so stick around for the next episode of [Picks of the Month]!
