[52 Weeks Challenge] Week 17 – The game with the best cutscenes

Hello everybody,

Tired of the 30 days game challenge? Enjoy my own personal revisitation of a classic challenge! Instead of 30 daily posts that fill an entire month, this challenge is more diluted in time and it will cover all the year 2018. 52 weeks, 52 questions to understand who’s the person behind this blog. Me!

Week 17 – The game with the best cutscenes

I hate to be tedious but I sincerely have to tell you that the best cutscenes in my opinion are all of those in which I can see the mutations in Resident Evil games. Everytime the game pauses just to show me what horrible creature I’m gonna fight I can’t help but feel scared and stare at the screen at the same time.

If I have to pick just one game the choice is really hard but I’ll probably go with Darkside Chronicles because it feaures a lot of missions that are a kind of “remake” on the usual old boss fights of the RE series.

That’s what I’m talking about…

The Command & Conquer series has my favourite set of cutscenes. They’re often cheesy as hell, but they’re memorable, especially when Kane is involved.

  2. I like the cutscenes for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. I remember they were very cinematic, with interesting camera angles and a lot of action, and the graphics were good for the time it was released. It was also one of the only games I have played which tried to add emotion to the story, which was well presented in the cutscenes. The game also used interesting visuals when background information was being discussed, such as when a character talked about The Patriots or previous events in the story. I also liked the way they used clips from the previous game in the cutscenes, which created a strange and nostalgic atmosphere because of the cruder graphics.
Are there any particular transformations you enjoyed? Did you find that the older cutscenes for the older Resident Evil games lost their impact because newer games have better graphics?

Probably the ones I love the most in the original trilogy are Nemesis mutations. But I love also thr mutationnof Alexia Ashford in Code: Veronica X and all the mutation featured in Darkside Chronicles, sort of enhancements of older cutscenes…however even though the graphics have improved a lot in 20 years the original RE games cutscenes aged very well and they’re still damn good…
