[Editorial] Guess what’s next on I ❤ Old Games! – 15/04/18

Hello guys,

This was probably the week in which I’ve started the biggest number of games in my life 🙂 I’m a compulsive “starter” and even tough I still have to finish a lot fo games I like to start somethign new every week. And this not only because I’d like to play as many games as possible, but mailly because if I play a game for too long I might get bored so I prefer not to arrive at that point.

After completing Resident Evil – Code: Veronica X last week, I decided, while rearranging my enlarging library of games and console, to play again the original Resident Evil on the original PS1. Unfortunately on my kinda new living room TV the game is almost unplayable (the screen is too large and the images too pixellated) so I had to put the PS1 in my bedroom, hooked up to my little Hulk (my bedroom TV 🙂 ). Since last time I played seriously was like 15 years ago, my last memory was of a really tough game. Well, probably because I’ve played a hell of RE games lately, coming back to the first is like a walk and I’m already at 50% of it. Basically I’ve finished to explore the Guarhouse and I’m coming back to the mansion to open the remaining doors. Now the game will be getting tough 😉

The same day I’ve received a new copy of Resident Evil 4, since the one I had was deeply scratched in the middle of the disc and I was unable to play. I’ve started again from where I was stuck and I proceeded quickly chapter after chapter and I’m at the end of chapter 4-3 so I’ve just passed 2/3 of the game. This adventure is so damn long!

But the week began with me trying to get accustomed by the “modern” controls in the FPS. I’ve finally put all my “new” consoles in the living room, taking advantage of the three HDMI ports of the TV: now they’re hooked up at the same time the PS2, the Wii, the Xbox 360, the NES Mini and the SNES Mini. I wanted to try Alien vs. Predator on the Xbox 360 but I quickly realize that, alas I need to start from something easier. I used to play FPS with keyboard and mouse I I have to get to grips with the analog controllers so I opted for Deus Ex. If you remember a lot (a lot lot lot) of months ago I submitted a small poll asking which game should I’ve played next and the winner was Deus Ex (the PC version I already owned). Then due to other projects and the arrive of the Nintendo mini consoles, I forgot about that promise. Now I can finally honor it and I hope I’ll put myself at ease with this another version of a game I loved back then.

Another game I’m gonna start today is Eye of the Beholder. Unfortunately at the moment I don’t own on original version (not the one for the SNES and not the one for PC, for which I shouild own an old style PC with MS-DOS and a floppy drive) so I’m playing through emulation. Believe it or not yesterday night I dreamt about this game, or better I dreamt about me speaking with a friend about Eye of the Beholder, so I wanted to believe this was a sign that I have to play the game 🙂

If I’ll be kucky enough and the weather will be good today I will visit a small market near where I live and I hope to find some good stuff. Lately I started to check also at the damn Game Stop for second hand games but it looks like the ones I have in town go back only to the Xbox 360 so no titles for the loved PS2 😦
