Welcome to the sixteenth entry of this column in which I review forbidden (and forgotten) retro games with adult contents.
A lot of the games that will be revisited here will have, as well as adult themes, some contents that may offend somebody. But please remember, we are here just to re-discover something rightfully forgotten, so don’t take it so seriously, we don’want to offend anybody. Just have fun and laugh 🙂
Today’s game is Lula: The Sexy Empire
Usually when you think about simulation/managerial titles you think about sport games, like Championship manager or games of the Sim series, but I bet the first thing that comes to mind is not a porn simulation game. And this is what is Lula: The Sexy Empire: you don’t have to biuld a winning team, nor a wealthy city, nor a solid company, you just have to become in pornography what J.D. Rockefeller has been for the oil industry.
The game was developed by Interactive Strip and thias remain the only game they made except the sequel of Lula, The Empire Cums Back (…). The publisher was CDV, a respectable name in the industry that, despite being the publisher of games worth to be listed in the [Forbiddfen Games] column (and they’ll surely pop up in te future) like Strip Poker, Erotica Island and 7 Sins,they also released great games like Commander Keen, Radix: Beyond the Void, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and the Cossacks games series.
The plot of the game is rather meagre: you embody a poor guy, cheated by her girlfriend and by his best friends who accidentally knows Lula, a sexy woman with which is love at first sight: his goal is to make a pornstar out of her.
Why is forgotten?
Lula: The Sexy Empire is not actually a forgotten game. It’s surely one of the most famous adult titles and the most prolific series along with Leisure Suit Larry. Tha game spawned a lot of sequels and a remastered version was also downloadable on GOG.com
Why is forbidden?
Believe it or not, despite the cartoonish style and the humor that lies underneath the naked skin of Lula, this game was banned in some states and I really can’t understand why. Ok, is about porn but it’s not like you’re watching a porn. Luckily enough (?) Italy is not one of the banning states so here we can fully enjoy Lula 🙂
Why is fun?
In Italy we have a figure of speech that says “who knows, knows it, who doesn’t know, teaches it” (and this is not against Rob Covell, I swear). So when you’re too old for porn, is better to teach “how to porn” and become a pornographer and that’s what you can do (legally) with Lula. Have you ever thought about a girl “she is made for porn”? With Lula you can fulfil your dream 🙂
How can I play it?
This game is quite easy to find and you don’t have to shell out a lot of money for it: if you’re happy to have an unboxed copy, 10€ are enought while if you want a big box copy you can find something around 50€.
Something similar but a bit less crappy???
You lose your mind on simulation games? You go crazy for boobs? Here’s three games not to be missed (kinda):
- Biing! – Sex, Intrigen und Skalpelle, a German game which is like the adult version of Them Hospital, or like the son of Theme Hospital and Lula;
- Playboy: The Mansion where you embody the immortal Hugh Hefner;
- Wet, an overlooked TPS of 2009 is a grindhouse fashion. Not a sim game and not too many boobs but you should give it a try…

Aha! We have a similar saying: “Those that can, do. Those that can’t, teach.”, so I don’t take any offence ;-).
On topic though, I do remember this being released and seeing the reviews of it in various gaming magazines at the time. Management games weren’t really my thing though so it never interested me beyond potential nudity! (I was a teenager at the time so nudity was everything!)

You’re right when Lula came out we were (I think we have more or less the same age) just teenagers so cheap boobs were the best thing in the world! 🙂

These games were quite a big deal here in Germany. I remeber playing Lula 3D. Was complete shite.

I have not played this game. It does seem to be a straightforward idea, creating a porn simulation game (a bit like adult versions of those games that allowed the player to create their own films, like The Simpsons Animated Studio). I like the cartoonlike graphics and the aesthetics that resembles the 1980’s.
How is the game played? Does the player film pornographic scenes? Or do they have to build up a business? Is there a story for the game?
