[52 Weeks Challenge] Week 2 – Your favourite character

Hello everybody,

Tired of the 30 days game challenge? Enjoy my own personal revisitation of a classic challenge! Instead of 30 daily posts that fill an entire month, this challenge is more diluted in time and it will cover all the year 2018. 52 weeks, 52 questions to understand who’s the person behind this blog. Me!

Week 2 – Your favourite character

Another easy but complicated question. You may have noticed that is always hard for me to give a unique answer to these kind of questions, since during my life I’ve played a lot of games, especially for PC, both good and bad ones.

Even though the most obvious answer could be Mario, since this is one of the game I’m more fond of, probably the answer is wrong. I’ve always been a Nintendo boy before starting my “career” as a PC gamer back in 1994 but I’ve spent most of my life in front of a PC screen so it must be said that if there’s a favourite character, probably I must search in the world of PC games. Ant talking about PC games with charismatic characters there’s only one name that comes to mind

Yes, Duke.

This game is probably the one I’ve played the most on all of my PCs, from my first 286 until the last laptop through emulation.

There’s no need to spend too many words to describe Duke, you all know what we’re talking about. This is not a character I feel I’m close to, I’m probably the exact opposite, but Duke really got me from the first time. Still now i 2018 I don’t know if in the world of gaming there’s a anti-here more fascinating than Duke, so Hail to the King, baby!

And what about your favourite character?

  2. My favourite character is Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series. Even though I have only played the Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 games, I like the portrayal of the character and how he changes in the two games. In the first game, he is a highly regarded, but disillusioned, soldier and, despite his combat experience, he does not know what to expect as he becomes more involved in the story. It was interesting for a character to be able to discuss his military experience and mentor another character while mimicking the player’s shock as they learn more about the Shadow Moses incident. He is the playable character for the second game, so it is interesting when the game discusses his legendary reputation, demonstrates his efficiency in combat and shows him guiding and helping the player. I also like that he has found a purpose in the game and he sympathises with playable character’s problems. It is also strange that the basis of his fame are the actions of the player in the previous game.
What games have you played with Duke in? What characteristics do you like about him?

I would never have guessed Duke. He’s had a rough ride but I’ve still got fond memories of his early adventures.
