[Happy Birthday!] Gran Turismo

Hello old games lovers,

Gaming is not just shooters and RPG and some ather remarkable titels hit the shelves some years ago, sone games that re-defined a genre and bolster the sales of a console. One of these is Gran Turismo which came out for PS1 in December 1997, 20 years ago. The winning formula that balanced racing, sales and purchase of parts was translated in the other chapters of the series and ensured an incredible longevity to a title that, even today, is still fun to play. And that’s the reason why the first game I’ve bought for the PS1 after my purchase last month was Gran Turismo 🙂

I’ve always wanted to play this game! I’m more of a Kart-racer gamer, but realistic driving sims have always impressed me. Happy Birthday Gran Turismo!

I have only ever played one, not being much of a racing game kind of guy. The one I played was “Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec” and it was a lot of fun. Starting off with a huge, slow Toyota and working through the ranks getting better and better cars with more upgrades. It was good fun, something that I doubt you’d see in the current generation of games. I’d recommend it even though it never hooked me into racers.

      That was nostalgic to write!

I do have GT3 on my PS2 and still holds up perfectly even today! I play it from time to time because I’m about to finish all the events (I even did Le Mans 24 hours that was quite painful!)

Unfortunately, I no longer have my PS2, or even my PS1… come to think of it, I’m not 100% sure where my 360 is. I might need to hunt around for some older consoles…

I would love to go back and play it (along with a whole bunch of older games), although the longer events never held my focus and I commend your determination to get through the Le Mans 24!

I did it with one of my friends. We were roomates at the university and during a cold and rainy winter weekend we turned the PS2 on after lunch and we raced the 24 hours with 8 hours shift each one. We could have tried the B-mode but we wanted to try the full experience. I don’t think I’ll ever do it again though…

  2. I loved this game because it allowed me to drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which is the car I really wanted when I was younger. Now, I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder, which I love driving in real life! 😉
