As I told you last week, I’m trying to build a small base collection of ZX Spectrum Games. I’ve stumbled upon an auction a few days ago for 5 cassettes from Ultimate Play The Game, one of the best houses back then that later evolved in Rare (here you can find my piece about them). Well UPTG games are very sought after and sometimes they’re sold at ridiculous prices like 30€ or so. The good thing about this lot is that was an auction, the bad thing is that auctions like this usually ends with sky high prices: and when I saw that the price reached 100€ I turned off the notifications…:( However the boxes of these games are absolutely wonderful and I hope to have all of them one day.
Even though I didn’t buy that lot I ended up buying another small lot of cassettes. Most of them are actually budget re-releases so, technically they’re not the *original* games but some of them are really well made an there’s something magic to try and get the ful collection of re-releases from a single software house (like Mastertronic, for example). The lot included some of the most known games and even though I’ve slightly overpaid it (due to the high shipping costs), I really need to have it because I still didn’t have games for the Speccy. And have it without games is like having a car without having a license. The good thing about this lot is that incudes two different releases of the compilation “They Sell 1 Million”, each one with 4 best-selling games. And among them there’s also one Daley Thompson’s Decathlon and a game from Ultimate, Sabre Wulfe, that I REALLY needed to play.
I’m also trying to get another small lot with a view to a future post where I will compare different version from different platforms of the same game. I think that if I’ll manage to win the auction it will be fun 🙂
