[Editorial] Guess what’s next on I ❤ Old Games! – 24/09/17

Hello guys,

Since I began my collecting “carreer” I’ve always had a kind of “stuggle”. The gaming world has always been divided in two groups: home console games and PC games. Even though the console games are, in some way, easier to track down and collect (even though they can become very expensive), the games designed for PC are more difficult to find, at least here where I live. I’m referring especially to the old PC games, on floppy, be they 3,5″ (as for the late DOS games or Amiga games) or 5,25″ (as for C64 and IBM PC for example).

Since the beginning of my experience I’ve looked after home consoles and games designed for them; my collection is growing bigger week after week and I’m very proud of it. However during all my life I’ve been primarily a PC gamer, first on MS-DOS PCs (I still have tons of 3,5″ floppies…somewhere…) and then on Windows PCs, so I still have a soft spot for early CD games and older games released on floppy disks. But I can’t deny a sort of love even for older formats, like the older 5,25″ floppies and I’d really love to have a lot of them in my collections.

Yesterday night I received a message from a guy who wanted to sell some boxed games, the ones of the late 80s released in big boxes. Some of them are quite old: in the lot there are also some AD&D games released by SSI on -precisely- 5,25″ floppy. I’m really tempted to buy them because they’re a huge piece of history and, most important they’re incredibly beautiful, even only to watch them on a shelf.

The main problem is that I’d love also to try them on a proper PC but…I don’t have it! I’m trying to look everywhere hoping to find and IBM PC or compatible to buy but I’ve found almost nothing and the few I’ve found are way too pricey for me.

For this reason I’d like to ask to all of you if you have some suggestion. I’m sure my gf will kill me if I buy an IBM PC because we have really no more space in our house but I’m equally sure I could find a place for it if only I cleaned a bit some of my shelves 🙂

Help please!
