Hello guys again, and welcome to my new post regarding some shopping I did some time ago.
I’ve improved a lot my NES games collection, even if I’m far far away to have at least the mandatory games, but I surely have now more than what I had when I started. NES is my console of choice, is the console I’ve grown with and I always keep an eye open to look for interesting games to buy.
This time, from one of my trusted eBay sellers I managed to find four games, all of them at 10€ each.
We start with The Flintstones: the Rescue of Dino and Hoppy, a game I remember when I was a child because there was a time when I watched a lot of Flintstones cartoons and I really wanted somebody to develop a game based on them. Back then I didn’t know it existed already but now that I’ve found it I can finally fulfil my old desire.
Another game I’ve found was Time Lord. This is a game developed by Rare that received mixed to bad reviews, so you may think “Why the f**k is he buying this thing?”. Well, I’ve asked myself the same thing, actually, but considering the low price and my love for the platformers/action games (this one looks almost like the first Duke Nukem installment, something I’ve already discussed) and the plot somehow particular, I decided to go for it anyway. I mean, there was even someone who liked the game, so I don’t want to criticize it a priori.
Double Dragon is for sure one of the most popular and recognizable series of the 80s and I managed to get the second installment of the series, Double Dragon II, a game which is better when played by two human players in co-op mode. Unfortunately I’m alone playing my NES…:(
The last game I got is Isolated Warrior, an isometric shooter, Zaxxon-style, where you control the title character, a sort of robot-warrior, busy to try to blast aliens and collect weapons. A quite straightforward game I’ll definitely need to know better.
That’s all for now guy, hope to talk to you soon!

These are awesome games. I was just looking into Isolated Warrior the other day since I hadn’t heard of it before. I’m going to be looking for that one at the next swap!

Luckily it’s quite cheap. I’ve played it briefly just to get in touch with the game but it looks fun!

Nice finds! If you ever find the sequel to that Flintstones game (Surprise at Dino Peak) super cheap, buy it on the spot. It goes for $700+ in the aftermarket due to rarity.
Double Dragon II is easily the best of the NES Trilogy. I have to say I hadn’t heard of Isolated Warrior. I immediately had to go get my copy of Pat Contri’s NES Guide Book to look it up, because it sounded so interesting. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one myself!

Yes I’ve seen that the prices of Dino Peak are sky high in fact I haven’t found anything cheap. I wanted to buy Pat Contri’s book but I’m still not sure. Do you think is worth it?

It’s worth every penny. I was fortunate enough to be able to buy it from him personally at RetroWorld Expo last year. It took him 3 years to write, and the book is a very high quality hardcover. It isn’t cheap (I think I paid him $60 or so.) But man is it good. It has every commercially released Game Pak ever made in it. Licensed, and Unlicensed for North America, and Europe including European exclusives. He also put out a digital version though for a lot less. So if you can’t swing for the physical book, the E-book is a great option. While on the subject of retro game books, I also really like Tim Lapetino’s Art Of Atari books, as well as Mark Bussler’s Ultra Massive Console Guide which also has a digital version.

Good tips! Some time ago I was looking for these kind of books, especially something like a game encyclopedia. I’ll try to find them our! 😀
