Would you say that Orlando Bloom, Chris Martin, Jessica Chastain and Shakira will be 40 this year? No? So you wouldn’t say that also another pice of history like the Apple II exactly today, June 10th turned 40!
This magnifiecient piece of thechnology was maybe the first big hit for Apple and it was one of the first computer to have a wolrdwide success, during the years in which the computers were still bulky and highly expensive machines. Apple II along with other two home computers were the stars of 1977 and they’re still worshipped by a large community of aficiaonados. Apple II was even one of the most longeve computers of all time: presented on April 16th, 1977, was still retailed, althought with some improvements, until 1993 after 16 years. And 16 years in computer science is an aeon.
The Apple II is the result of a philosophy that a few years later made Steve Jobs the enfant prodige of the computers and is the first computer to display the famous rainbowed apple logo, designed in substitution of the old Isanc Newton one. The computer was retailed at 1298$, a very high price for today’s standards (more than 5200$) but a breath of fresh air in comparison with the old bulky computers of the era.
