Hello old games lovers,
We celebrate today the 18th anniversary of Super Smash Bros. that marks the entrance of our mustachioed plumber in the world of fighting games, even though claiming this as a pure fighting game it will be a bit too much.
Released in Japan on January 21st, 1999, Super Smash Bros. features all the most famous Nintendo characters, busy in a Nintendo style fight to try to become the king of the kings. We can find (obviously) Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu etc… so the best of the best of Nintendo universe.

I have played this game. I remember this was probably the most entertaining multiplayer game I have played on the Nintendo 64. The game itself was easy to play and had an interesting range of colour schemes, from relaxingly dark levels to vibrant stages. It was also an interestingly bizarre game, with the damage system different to most fighting games and the story. I remember playing it a few years ago and being surprised at how I found the characters to be bulky in design and the movements slow.

Unfortunately this is not a game I personally own so I played it just a couple of times against friend who had it. I’ve never been a brawler maniac but this “light” fighting game, coupled withy my favourite Nintendo characters was rather entertraining. Everytime I played it was funny because you had to ineract directly with your friends…

Your response possibly identifies why the game was so popular. It was entertaining, light and was fun to enjoy with friends, even if the player had not played the game before.

Wow! Already 18 years. I was so excited when I first heard about this game, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. This game was paramount in shaping my love for Nintendo characters. Happy Birthday Smash 64!
