[RetroPicks] An unexpected deal: N64!

As I told you some time ago, my dream to enter the world of consoles and games collecting went real when I found in my basement my old NES. This was the kick in the ass I needed to start to look online, in flea markets, in thrift stores, so everywhere to find some good stuff to buy at a reasonable price.

So first of all I started to fill a watchlist on eBay and I began to place some bid when I saw something interesting at a hyper-discounted price. A couple of days after I got a notification: my bid was still the best and the time was expiring. I couldn’t make anymore bids because I was checking with my phone and the connection was really awful so I started to bite my nails.

Then, after the longest two minutes of the last years, I finally got my reward. I won the auction and for the small sum of 45€ I put my hands on an almost brand new Nintendo 64!

Unfortunately it came unboxed (but I knew it) but what surprised me was that when I opened the box the conditiond were even better than in the pictures!

Along with the console, with all the working original cables I got also the immortal Super Mario 64 and three controllers (all working): the grey…

the black…

and the most important of them all: my favourite N64 controller, the yellow one!

I hooked up my new N64 on TV and everything was working great! You can imagine what I did for the whole day…

Now I have the “base” I will look after some good deal on N64 games. The first ones I will keep my eyes onto will be Zelda ones (both A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time) and surely Mario Kart. Any good suggestion regarding games I HAVE TO look after will be more than welcome.

See ya guys!

I am so excited you found an awesome deal!!! Congratulations! Everything looks like it’s in wonderful shape, and you have a great game to start with. I don’t know much of the N64 library just yet, but the Zelda games are solid titles. I recently picked up Conker’s Bad Fur Day. The internet has given it rave reviews but is rated M for mature if you’re into some toilet humour and the like. It’s also normally pretty expensive, so if you find a deal on it, snatch it up!

I’m excited too! And on my living room TV works brilliantly! 🙂 Now I’ve played only Mario 64, just to test that everything works but I plan to find a good set of games. Obviously some of the great classics, as you mentioned but I’m keen on finding even some less rated games such as Doom64. I want to check how is the N64 version of this masterpiece…

  3. Congratulations! That sounds like an amazing deal, and the fact that it was in even better condition than what you thought is like icing on the cake. I never really played much of Mario 64. Sadly the N64 was the very first console to give me migraines (never had them before) so while I can watch games, I can’t play them without getting eye strain and the headaches. I love some of the games on it though and have seen playthroughs of Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, which are both awesome. I hope you enjoy your new purchase!

Whoa, I didn’t know N64 could be so harmful! By the way thanks for the compliments. Now I will keep my eyes open and try to get Banjo or one of the Zeldas…

      1. I think it was just me! It was a kind of motion sickness almost. Very, very weird. I can watch them, but playing them caused it for some reason.

  4. Congrats, that’s a great deal you got! There are of course the great N64 classics, like Mario 64, Star Fox 64, the Zelda games, Goldeneye, Banjo, etc. Some fantastic lesser known/under-rated games: Excitebike 64 is one of my all-time favourite games, and Mischief Makers is a unique gem, as is Blast Corps.

Yes, looks like is brand new! When you see the pictures from eBay 80% of times the item is in worse condition than it seems but this time was within the 20% 🙂
