[Happy Birthday!] Castlevania

castlevania

Hello old game lovers,

Today, or better on September 26th, 1986 (my flu took over my will of writing) has been released in Japan a game with a strange title, Akuma jō Dracula, widely known in the west as Castlevania, one of the most famous games of all time, first title of a never ending saga and one of the first among the well-known video games with a horror setting, being set in 1691 in a sinister castle.

So we pay homage to this brand new 30 years old boy and we wish him other 30 years!

  2. Ah Castlevania was one of the first games to scare the hell out of me! I remember my brother and cousin playing it, and just to make me more terrified my cousin told me stories about werewolves so sleeping that night was out of the question. I don’t think I’d find it too scary now in my mid thirties, but to a six year old, well vampires and werewolves were still pretty monstrous.

While I haven’t really played much Castlevania myself, it’s one of those series I still like. I’m…quite a fan of Alucard in Symphony of the Night and elsewhere. Also the soundtrack is phenomenal!

Don’t think I defeated my fears with time! When I play Resident Evil even today, even if I know precisely what’s going to happen I still shit myself…

      3. I HATE jump scares and anything chasing me. Talk about primal fears *shudders*

I was playing the original Resident Evil a few months back, and that game still got me. Just running through an empty hallway, a Hunter jumps right in front of me from around the corner, and I swear my heart nearly stopped. The only time where I saw a monster try a literal jump scare.

Resident is the best horror game ever made, and I don’t think somebody will be able to do better…

I just played a Castlevania game for the first time yesterday. Just in time to celebrate 30 wonderful years I guess! I really enjoy all the metal covers of Castlevania music. It sounds so much more awesome that way!

I hope you’re feeling better. I was sick lately too and it wasn’t very fun at all.

The sad thing is this series died long before Konami went the way of Pachinko.

  6. Lots of these are going to be hitting their big three-oh with the NES having come out 31 years ago. Couldn’t be a better time for raising retro awareness! I’m sad to say, however, that I’ve never played the original Castlevania. That will be rectified by the NES mini.

I’m waiting for NES mini to to beat the game. Even because I’ve played Castlevania just a couple of times…
